Although the transition into a new setting can be hard for families initially, it is always exciting to watch the amazing developmental growth and confidence of each child throughout the year. Language development, socialization and self help skills are some of the most important areas we focus on throughout each day. We follow the RI Early Learning and Development Standards and base our curriculum here at Up With Children on them.

Our curriculum is based on the guidelines of the Rhode Island Early Learning and Development Standards. (RIELDS) The layout of the classroom was designed with the Standards in mind and is broken up into learning areas and centers: math, literacy and science tables, dramatic play area, creative art table, block center and a quiet area. These well defined areas will assist your child with their self organization skills, persistence and self help skills. Most importantly they are designed to help your child develop the skills necessary to succeed in Kindergarten.

As the Director of “Up With Children”, I am proud to say that it has been over 30 years since we founded our Preschool/Daycare center. My husband Bob and I, together with my parents, Gloria and Jerry Lucchesi, opened the “East Providence Early Childhood Learning Center”, now better known as “Up With Children”, in February 1987.
Growing up with warm, caring parents that instilled strong family values, my Mom was my role model and mentor. She was a natural born teacher with a genuine love for children and families. In our home, she demonstrated that lifelong education began at birth and children learned best through play, good books, and intentional purposeful interactions. She recognized and appreciated the unique abilities and potential in all of us and everyone she met. Sharing the same passion, philosophy, and career path, working together with my Mom to establish the foundation of our school was a natural and rewarding experience.
After eight wonderful years working side by side, my parents retired and Bob and I became the sole owners and operators of “Up With Children”.
Although there have been many positive changes in Early Childhood education since 1987, the core values which make up our current mission statement and guiding principles that were established in the beginning, remain the same. We continue to be a safe, nurturing, stimulating, age appropriate environment with responsive, accessible teachers, caregivers, and administrators who welcome and appreciate diversity among families and children.
