Rhode Island Early Learning Developmental Standards

Our Curriculum at "Up With Children" is based on the Rhode Island Early Learning Developmental Standards and learning through play.  “The RIELDS provides guidance to families, teachers, and administrators about what young children should know and be able to do as they enter kindergarten.”  It is important to understand that in the Early Childhood years, the world is your child’s classroom and their learning extends well beyond the classroom each day.  We believe that working together as a team will help create a positive learning experience for your child!  Below you will find the link to the Rhode Island Early Learning Developmental Standards Website.

Play lies at the heart of our preschool program.  It makes a major contribution to the physical, social, emotional, and intellectual development of children.  Learning is promoted largely through play, supported by a variety of materials and a wide range of experiences, under the guidance of teachers who understand and value play as an avenue for learning.

Many aspects of mental and physical development seem to “just happen” to most children.  They are, however, the result of interaction between innate capabilities and appropriate environmental experiences.  It is the purpose of "Up With Children" to provide a safe, healthy, happy and stimulating environment for all its students, as well as well-planned learning environment which encourages our children to explore, experiment and think creatively.  Encouragement and directed questioning from our teachers help the children interpret and verbalize what they see and think.  Language development is an on-going process involved in each and every activity.
