Guiding Principles
Foster Social and Emotional Growth and Development:
We support children as they begin to explore and understand new experiences as well as recognize the feelings of others and respond appropriately.
Responsive Teachers/Accessible Environments:
Our teachers seek to stimulate and encourage each child to observe, explore, and experiment in a “hands-on” play environment, which supports accessibility, self-initiated learning as well as guidance from warm and caring teachers. Activities and experiences are modified and assessed to fit the needs of individual children. We work one on one when appropriate in order for all children of all abilities to have the opportunity for independent growth and success. We view inclusion as the right for every child to participate in a range of learning experiences and opportunities, regardless of ability, economic status, or culture.
Parents/Families as Advocates:
The teachers demonstrate appreciation of parents and their roles as primary caretakers. We work with them, taking into consideration their cultural background and traditions, and invite them to participate in their child’s classroom. In addition, we provide enrichment programs and a variety of at home learning activities they can do with their child.
Understanding and Appreciation of Each Child’s Abilities:
We share the results of on-going assessment of each child with their parents so they understand the needs of their child and can work with them. It is important to help parents realize that they are their child’s most effective advocate and empower them to continue that role in a beneficial way throughout their child’s education.
Support, Involve and Educate Parents and Families:
We invite parents and families to be partners in this important foundation for their child’s education
